The Office of Education Standards (OES) completed a productive study tour to Jamaica during April 14-17, 2025, where the team engaged in a valuable learning conversation with the National Education Inspectorate (NEI) of Jamaica, The Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission, The Early Childhood Commission and HEART TRUST NSTA.
During the visit, the NEI Chief Inspector and CEO Dr. Maureen Dwyer and Mr. Shirley Morgan, Research Manager shared important insights into their national inspection system and processes, providing the OES team with an opportunity to reflect on current practices and approaches to evaluating the quality of education and learning outcomes in the Cayman Islands.
The collaborative exchange of ideas and experiences allowed both teams to explore effective strategies for school inspections, reporting, and supporting educational improvement. The visit forms part of the OES’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and regional and international collaboration aimed at enhancing educational standards for all students in the Cayman Islands.
The HEART Trust/NSTA team provided an immersive and highly engaging experience for the Office of Education Standards (OES) during the recent study tour. The excellent timing of the visit allowed the OES team to participate alongside local principals on the National Tool and Engineering Institute (NTEI) (NEI) Site Tour, further enriching the experience. The sessions delivered were informative, impactful, and offered valuable insights into various aspects of monitoring, evaluation, and provision at HEART Trust/NSTA. These learning opportunities provided much for reflection as the OES considers how best to further enhance and assess Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) provision in the Cayman Islands.
